New Delhi, January 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with top economists of the country and experts on Thursday ahead of Union Budget 2020. The meeting, being organised by government think tank NITI Aayog, will take place in Delhi. According to reports, various ministers, leading economists, NITI Aayog functionaries and sectoral experts are likely to attend the event. The meeting comes after India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been forecast to dip an eleven-year low of five percent in the current fiscal due to poor showing by construction and manufacturing sectors. GDP Estimates for FY20 at 5% Against 6.8% in FY19, Says Government of India.

As per data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the manufacturing sector output growth will slack up to 2 percent in 2019-20, down from 6.9 percent from last financial year. Similarly, the construction sector growth is estimated at 3.2 percent against 8.7 percent in 2018-19.
On Monday, PM Modi met top business leaders. The meeting was attended by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Mittal, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran, Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal, TVS Chairman Venu Srinivasan, and L&T Chairman A.M. Naik, among others.
