Jaipur, May 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the ban on Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as a “big victory’. During a rally in Jaipur, PM Modi said that the designating Azhar as a global terrorist is a “big victory for India in its fight against terrorism”. The Prime Minister said that in the fight against terrorism entire world is with India. Masood Azhar's Listing as Global Terrorist: Positive Progress Made, Says China Day Before UN Meet.

PM Modi also thanked the countries for supporting the move to designate the JeM as a global terrorist. He further added that India will not spare those who would pose danger to the country. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also expressed happiness over the move. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also it as a big achievement. He said, "In India's fight against terrorism, this is an important achievement. For the last one decade, India was making diplomatic efforts towards this goal. It'll help bring Masood Azhar and JeM to justice."

PM Modi's speech:

India’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Syed Akbaruddin said, “This is a significant outcome, we have been at it for several years, today the goal stands achieved.” He also thanked the countries who supported the move. He further added, “Grateful to many countries who supported us i.e. the USA, UK and France and also several others in the council & outside the council.”

France has also welcomed the designation of Azhar as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). France said the French diplomacy had been relentlessly pleading for sanctioning Azhar, head of the terrorist group responsible, notably, for the Pulwama attack last February.

Earlier in the day, Azhar was listed as a global terrorist by the UNSC. It is considered as a huge diplomatic win for India as China, which had blocked Masood Azhar's listing as global terrorist four times, finally dropped its objections. With the designation as a global terrorist, Azhar’s all finances and assets will be frozen.
