Ahmedabad, October 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, October 2 released a commemorative coin of Rs 150 to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi. This development took place in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city, where PM Modi arrived for the 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' programme at Sabarmati Riverfront. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present. While addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, "The whole world is celebrating Bapu's birth anniversary. A few days ago United Nations (UN) released a postal stamp to make this occasion memorable, now commemorative stamps & coins have also been released here." The Prime Minister said that the whole world is appreciating India for providing toilets to over 60 crore citizens in last 60 months by building more than 11 crore toilets. "Today rural India and its villages have declared themselves 'open defecation free'," he added.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi visited Sabarmati Ashram where Gandhiji stayed for twelve years with his wife Kasturba Gandhi and followers. "I'm satisfied that on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti 2019, we're witnessing the fulfilment of his dream of 'Swachh Bharat'. I feel lucky that on this occasion when India has successfully stopped open defecation I'm here at the ashram," PM Modi wrote in visitor's book at the ashram.
