Chennai, September 24: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Tamil Nadu unit President Tamilisai Soundararjan on Monday said that she had ‘nominated’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize for launching the ‘world’s largest’ health scheme. The press release issued by Soundrarajan’s offices also stated that her husband Professor Dr P Soundarajan who is the head of department and Senior Consultant in Nephrology at a private university had also nominated PM Modi for Nobel, Peace Prize.

The press release said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for launching the world’s largest healthcare scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)- Ayushman Bharat by Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.” The BJP Tamil Nadu chief termed health scheme as the path-breaking initiative. Soundrarajan also claimed that it would transform the lives of millions of people, especially the underprivileged and vulnerable.

The Tamil Nadu BJP chief has also appealed to University Professors and Members of Parliament to nominate the Prime Minister for Nobel Peace Prize 2019. The last date of nomination is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year.

PM on Sunday rolled out the (PMJAY)  also known as Ayushman Bharat, and had termed it a “game-changer initiative to serve the poor”. The scheme is likely to cover 10 crore households, falling at the bottom of the socio-economic census of 2011. The eligible section of the population need to register by dialling 14555, and If they fit the eligibility criteria, the beneficiaries would be issued a card. The scheme will cover health expenses for up to Rs 5 lakh per year.
