PM Narendra Modi's Cavalcade Enroute 'Swachhta Hi Seva' Event Gets Stuck in Delhi Traffic Jam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday travelled without any VIP protocols for launching the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement.

New Delhi, September 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday travelled without any VIP protocols for launching the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement. There was no security route put in place for the movement. His cavalcade even stuck in the traffic jam as no security route or barriers were in place to allow for smooth traffic flow. The movement is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, urging Indians to make India a clean country. The day also marks the fourth anniversary of the mission.

On the eve of the launch, the PM also sent out letters to 2,000 prominent personalities of the country. The prime minister invited former judges, retired government officials, winners of gallantry awards, and CWG and Asian Games medallists to take part in the movement. Chief Ministers and deputy chief ministers of all states, governors and lieutenant governors also received personalised letters.

Before launching the movement the Prime Minister interacted with citizens across 18 location which includes school children, employees, jawans and local government representatives through live streaming on the ‘Namo App’. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and industrialist Ratan Tata also interacted with the PM through the live streaming.

PM Modi said that the mission had covered 90 percent of the country and around 9 crore toilets had been built. The PM also encouraged the people towards fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi's dream of a Clean India. Later PM Modi took part in a cleanliness drive in the premises of Baba Sahib Ambedkar Higher Secondary School in Paharganj.

The Prime Minister also interacted with the students of the school. Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also took part in the movement. Union Pradhan cleaned parts of Delhi's Vasant Vihar area as a part of the campaign, while Singh swept the streets of Faridabad. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also cleaned Old Delhi railway station as a part of the movement
