The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are often seen making foot-in-mouth comments when asked about PM Narendra Modi’s pre-2014 election promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account. And the latest to join the bandwagon is BJP’s Rajasthan state unit chief, Madanlal Saini.

As per a Hindustan Times report, the new President of BJP in Rajasthan unit said that PM Narendra Modi has indirectly fulfilled his pre-poll promise made during his 2014 Lok Sabha Elections of giving Rs 15 lakh to every Indian.

“Nobody gives cash, but arrangements have been made so that the poor have got benefits to the tune of Rs 15 lakh,” said Saini in his recent interview. He said that one could not expect the government to give Rs 15 lakh to Ambani, referring indirectly to Mukesh Ambani.

Talking about the benefits the poor and underprivileged people derive from the schemes by Central and State governments, Saini explained, “If you combine all the benefits, the poor have got Rs 15 lakh.”

Not only that, Saini went a step ahead and defended the number of jobs delivered by the Rajasthan State government in the last four years. While defending BJP’s promise made during the 2013 Rajasthan Assembly Elections, Saini said, “We have given 2-3 lakh government jobs (over four years). Then, there have been other employment opportunities. If you do the total, we have given 15 lakh jobs.” The party had promised of creating over 1.5 million jobs in the next five years if they were to come to power.

Rajasthan Assembly Elections are due to take place later in the year, and such political statements are bound to make headlines. With Madanlal Saini making another foot-in-mouth comment over the argument of Rs 15 lakh, it seems that the battle for 2018 Rajasthan Assembly Polls is only going to be exciting ahead!
