New Delhi, January 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Selection Committee will be meeting tomorrow i.e on January 23 at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. The panel will hold a meeting for the appointment of a new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director. Notably, the place where the meeting is taking place is PM Modi's official residence. The government has shortlisted 12 candidates for new CBI director. The list also includes Gujarat DGP Shivanand Jha and National Investigation Agency (NIA) DG Y.C. Modi, who are considered favourites of PM Modi since he was Gujarat Chief Minister. The list also includes a female IPS officer Rina Mitra, from Madhya Pradesh. Mumbai police commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, BSF DGP Rajnikant Mishra, Uttar Pradesh director-general of police O.P. Singh, Haryana DG (state vigilance bureau) Parminder Rai, CISF DG Rajesh Ranjan and SSB DG S.S. Deswal are also said to be among those shortlisted.
Meanwhile, on January 11, Interim Director M Nageshwar Rao took charge of CBI Director after the selection panel sacked Alok Verma from his position and transferred him to the fire and Service department as Director General (DG). Later, Verma refused to take up his new position and told the government that he be deemed superannuated.
