Bengaluru, August 28: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Karnataka is preparing to act decisively against big eateries, manufacturers and people using plastic in the state despite the ban. According to a tweet by ANIRandeep D, Special Commissioner of BBMP said that the civic body will now strictly fine any user or big eateries or manufacturers across the state if they are found using any kind of plastic. "Now, we are ensuring that any user of plastic, be it domestic or big eateries or manufacturers, all this should completely cease. Even the user will be fined", the Commissioner of BBMP added. Alternatives for Plastic Ban: These Soluble Bags Made From Potato and Organic Waste Could Be a Good Option.

Randeep said the ban by the state government, which is applicable to BBMP limits also has not been implementation in a proper manner in several parts of the state. The civic body feels its blanket plastic ban in the city has not been effective as the factories continue to produce thin plastic bags that end up with the street vendors.

Here's the tweet:

The state-wide ban in Karnataka came into effect in March 2016. In October 2015, the Karnataka government had drafted notification to ban the plastic in the state. The state cabinet later approved the notification in March 2016 and the ban came into effect soon after.

The Karnataka government had banned the manufacture and the sale of thermocol and microbeads. But despite the ban, plastic is easily manufactured and available in the market. After the decision by the state government, the BBMP issued a circular in May, stating the penalty on all those found manufacturing, supplying, storing, transporting, selling and distributing, and using the banned item.
