Nawanshahr, June 16: A Punjab Court on Saturday sentenced a father-son duo to six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each after thier dog, a Pitbull, advanced and injured a girl in Nawanshahr area of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district last year. Magistrate Lavleen Sandhu said, "It is a crime to let loose a dangerous dog like Pitbull onto the streets and endanger others. There is a provision to punish the owner of the pet in such cases." Recalling the incident, the minor, Tanzana, said, "I was coming home from a temple when the dog attacked me. My father saw the dog and managed to get me freed from it. The court, however, granted dog owners bail to appeal against the order. The incident took place in February last year when a 12-year-old in Banga Gandhi Nagar area was attacked and injured by a dog. The minor's father said that she had to undergo three to four surgeries and it costed around Rs 2.5 lakhs.
"She had to undergo 3-4 surgeries. It cost us 2-2.5 lakh rupees. I had to even close my shop for 15-20 days," Ramesh Kumar Gulati said, adding that another case of financial loss is going on.
