New Delhi, October 4: A pilot of a private chopper was injured after being hit by the rotor blades. It was a lucky escape for the pilot who ducked in time and survived. The incident, which could be fatal had the pilot not sat down anticipating the threat, was recorded on a mobile camera. The video of the accident is widely shared on social media. The mishap took place in Palli village of Faridabad on Thursday.
The pilot was standing too close to the chopper, an Agusta 109C helicopter (VT-ATA), when the ignition procedure began. One of the blades hit the pilot on his forehead. Fortunately, he escaped with only a minor injury as the rotor hadn't picked up speed. Following the incident, the helicopter was grounded in Palli where Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a team to ascertain more details.

The chopper belongs to a Delhi-based firm Aerotech Aviation. "This kind of thing happens when safety instructions are not followed. Luckily there was no fatality and the pilot suffered a minor injury on forehead. The pilot went into the danger area inadvertently, probably not assessing the situation prior to departure," a senior DGCA official was quoted by TOI as saying.
According to details available at Aerotech Aviation's website, Agusta 109C is an eight-seater helicopter that is rented out for $2800 (about Rs 2 lakh) an hour.
