The Indian Air force (IAF) is carrying out search operations to find eight trekkers members of a trekking team who went missing whilst climbing the Nanda Devi peak in Uttarakhand.
Dehradun, June 03: The Indian Air force (IAF) is carrying out search operations for the third consecutive day to rescue eight members of a trekking team who went missing whilst climbing the Nanda Devi peak in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Indo-Tibetian Border Police issued aerial images showing equipment and bodies partially buried in snow. The Mountaineers - four Britishers, two Americans, an Australian woman and an Indian were went missing while heading towards Nanda Devi East at around 20000 feet. They set to scale an unclimbed summit on May 13. The group led by British climber Martin Moran were attempting to scale a virgin peak in the region. Meanwhile, the IAF on Sunday rescued four British mountaineers from the avalanche-hit Nanda Devi peak in Uttarakhand. The four rescued climbers were identified as Mark Thomas, Ian Wade, Kate Armstrong, and Zachary Quain. They were spotted at Munsiyari base camp near Nanda Devi.
According to reports, a team of 10-15 rescuers are searching for the missing climbers. The casualty rate on Nanda Devi peak is more than on Mount Everest.
