New Delhi, December 22: The government on Thursday told parliament that the price of one-litre diesel would be Rs 38.67 and Petrol Rs 34.04 per litre without taxes and dealer's commission in the national capital. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance gave details of about petroleum products on December 19. Shukla said the incidence of taxes and dealers commissions work out to be 96.9 per cent in case of petrol and 60.3 per cent for diesel, reported news agency PTIEconomy in 2018: The Year of Rise And Fall of Markets And Fuel Prices And The RBI Game of Throne.

According to his reply, on December 19, the retail price of petrol was Rs. 70.63 a litre and Diesel Rs 64.54 litre, petrol will cost only Rs 34.04 per litre (Rs 17.98 central excise duty, Rs. 15.02 state VAT and Rs. 3.59 commission of dealer) and diesel only Rs 38.67 (central excise duty of Rs. 13.83, state VAT of Rs. 9.51 and dealer commission of Rs. 2.53) without any tax and dealer’s commission. Fuel Rates Hiked After 2 Months of Relief; Check Petrol And Diesel Price In Metros on December 17.

However, it is practically impossible to 100 per cent cut-off taxes and dealer's commission. Meanwhile, the diesel and Petrol prices were cut on Friday as the crude oil prices were slumped to a new low. Diesel was sold for Rs 64.39 in Delhi, Petrol was available for Rs 70.46 respectively.

Earlier in October, fuel prices had witnessed a relentless hike as the crude oil prices witnessed a new high. During this period, Petrol price had touched a record high of Rs 91.34 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 84 in Delhi on October 4. Diesel on that day had peaked to Rs 80.10 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 75.45 a litre in Delhi.
