Mumbai, December 13: The prices of petrol, after going down drastically in the past one month, rose on Thursday across the country. The diesel prices, however, remained the same as they were on Wednesday, December 12. In Mumbai, the price of petrol rose by 11 paise to Rs 75.91 per litre while diesel price remained at Rs 67.66 per litre. In Delhi, the price of petrol today was 9 paise up at Rs 70.29 per litre while diesel price was at Rs 64.66 per litre.

In Chennai, the price of petrol rose by 12 paise to Rs 72.94 per litre while the price of diesel remained constant at Rs 68.26 per litre. In Kolkata, there was no change in fuel prices. While petrol price was at Rs 72.38 per litre, diesel was at Rs 66.40 per litre.

This is the first hike in prices of petrol and diesel after a month. The fuel prices had been on a fall over the past one month.

Meanwhile, earlier this week former chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanian said that the inclusion of petrol and diesel in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) ambit was not possible until the revenues under the new tax regime stabilises.

"You know it is desirable to have that (inclusion of petrol and diesel in GST). There is a good economic explanation or fiscal explanation for why it is not easy. Because if you put petroleum products in to GST, naturally you will have a loss of revenues," Subramanian said.
