Mumbai, December 4: The fuel prices continue to decline in major metros of the country in the first week of December. The price for petrol slashed by 30 paise, both in the national capital and Mumbai. Due to this, the new price for petrol reached to Rs 71.93 per litre in New Delhi, while in Mumbai it is being sold at Rs 77.50 per litre, according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) data.

The diesel price in both the metros was also slashed. The price for diesel decreased by 36 paise in New Delhi, and for Mumbai, the reduction was 38 paise. The new rates for diesel in Delhi came down to Rs 66.66 per litre, and in Mumbai, it is being sold at Rs 69.77 per litre. The price for petrol also dipped in Chennai and Kolkata too. In Chennai, the price of petrol decreased by 31 paise, and in Kolkata, it was reduced by 29 paise. The new rates at which petrol is being sold in Chennai is Rs 74.63, and in Kolkata, it is being sold at Rs 73.96 per litre.

Not only petrol, but the diesel price also reduced in the two metros. The price of diesel was slashed by 39 paise in Chennai and 36 paise in Kolkata. Due to this, the diesel price in Chennai came down to Rs 70.38 per litre, while in Kolkata it is being sold at Rs 68.39 per litre.

There has been a continuous dip in the fuel prices since the third week of last month, due to the decrease in crude oil prices. Previously, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had requested the state governments to take initiatives to decrease the prices of petrol and diesel. With this decrease, it is expected that the rates of essential commodities will also decline, giving respite to consumers.
