New Delhi, February 3: In a bizarre incident, police summoned a rooster along with its owner on Saturday for relentlessly pecking at a young girl's cheek in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district. According to reports, the owners of the rooster, a husband and wife, were detained and interrogated on charges that their pet chicken was repeatedly attacking their neighbour’s five-year-old daughter, causing bleeding. According to police officer Rachna Rana, the girl identified as Ritika, was playing outside her home when her neighbour’s rooster pecked at her cheek and hurt her. According to a report by IANS, as soon after the girl's parents came to know that their daughter was injured, they went to the police station demanding action against the rooster's owner. Poonam Kushwaha, the girl’s mother said she was fed up of the chicken ‘attacking’ her daughter. She added saying that despite repeated warnings to Pappu and his wife (the neighbour), the chicken continued to harass her daughter. The mother alleged that the pet had attacked her daughter four times in the last five months but the owners did not take any action.

The matter did not end here but took an interesting turn. When the police summoned Pappu along with his rooster, his wife also reached there and urged the police to put her in jail and spare her pet chicken. She also promised a 'house-arrest' of the chicken. According to reports, the chicken was bought by the childless couple a year back for Rs 5. "I promise it will not roam on the road now onwards," she was quoted by IANS. According to details by the Police, the matter was sorted out with mutual understanding. As both sides agreed to compromise, the police did not take any action in connection with the matter.
