Jaipur, December 17: Payal Rohatgi, a model and actress from Rajasthan, who was arrested by Rajasthan police over her controversial video on freedom fighter Motilal Nehru, has been released on bail on Tuesday. According to a tweet by ANI, Rohatgi who was arrested by the Bundi police on December 15, has been released with two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. On Monday, the actress was sent to judicial custody till December 24 by a metropolitan court soon after she was brought to Bundi from Ahmedabad.
Rohatgi was produced in Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court and sent to 8-day judicial custody. The model-turned-reality show star had applied for bail on Tuesday. The actress was arrested for posting the obtainable comments on social media handles including Facebook and twitter. "I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google .. Freedom of Speech is a joke," read a post on her Twitter handle.
According to reports, a complaint was lodged by Congress worker Charmesh Sharma on October 10, 2019 against Rohatgi for posting an objectionable video on Nehru and his family on the Facebook and Twitter. Soon after, the Police lodged a case against her under section 504, 505(2) of the IPC and started investigation.
