New Delhi, November 26:On the eve of Constitution Day 2019, the Indian Parliament building in New Delhi was illuminated on Monday, November 25. Constitution Day is celebrated on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the constitution. The Consitution Day was celebrated for the first time four years ago in 2015 as a mark of tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar, the first law and justice minister of India.
On this day in 1947, India had adopted its constitution. The constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950. BR Ambedkar was the head of the committee that finalised the draft of the Constitution of India. Earlier, November 26 was celebrated as National Law Day. Addressing Mann ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said, "I hope that the Constitution Day reinforces our obligation towards upholding the constitutional ideals and values, thus contributing to nation-building. After all, this was the dream of the makers of our Constitution."
"My dear countrymen, November 26 is Constitution Day and it is a special day for the whole country," the Prime Minister said. Notably, this year India will be completing 70 years of the adoption of the Constitution.
