Mumbai, January 7: The BMC is set to reduce the fines for illegal parking in the city. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the revised rates for parking in no-parking zones within 500 metres of a public parking lot will be reduced from Rs 10,000 to 4,000. In addition to this, buses parked within 500 metres of BEST depot will also have to pay Rs 4,000. The fine on four arterial roads will be Rs 8,000.

This decision to revise the rates comes after getting criticism from Mumbai Parking Authority Chairman Gautam Chatterjee. He had said that the power to penalise owners of illegally parked vehicles only lies with RTO and the traffic police.
