Patiala, October 23: Punjab police has arrested Jarman Singh, the alleged mastermind from Patiala in former Chief Minister of the state Parkash Singh Badal murder conspiracy case. A total of five pistols and 15 live cartridges were seized from Singh. On October 2, armed men had looted two rifles from policemen at the Kamalpur Police check-post in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. Later during interrogation, it was found out that the three men arrested were associated with the Khalistan Liberation Front and were planning to target former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police were alerted after the association of the accused with the Khalistan Liberation Front came to light. Further investigation was handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad. Two policemen were injured in the attack. Later, the rifles were recovered from a gurudwara. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh police announced an award of Rs 50,000 for the police team which arrested the accused, Amrat Singh, Gurjan and Karan Singh.

In September, the former CM of Punjab had accused the state's Congress government of encouraging radical elements. He also claimed that there was a plot to assassinate him and his son Sukhbir Badal. The former CM also alleged that the Congress government in the state was trying to gain control of the Sikh shrines and historical religious institutions.
