Chandigarh, July 23: The eight accused who were arrested in the Morni rape case have been produced before District Court, Panchkula on July 23. Out of the eight accused, six people have been sent to two-day police remand, while rest have been sent to a three-day remand. Earlier, Haryana Police had suspended three police personnel for negligence in the case of sexual assault against a woman from Panchkula.

In the shocking incident, 40 men allegedly gang-raped the woman after being held captive in a guest house for four days when she went to find a job. The woman lodged a complaint in Manimajra Police Station in Chandigarh on July 19. In the complaint, the victim alleged that she was held captive in a guest house in the Morni Hills from July 15 to 18 where the accused took turns to rape her.

The woman also alleged that one of the accused was known to her husband and had promised to give her a job at the guest house. The 22-year-old victim managed to escape on July 19. The woman's medical report had also confirmed that she was raped and given sedatives when she was held captive. Panchkula Police has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate into the case.
