Mumbai, April 8: Two brothers were sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping their cousin sister in Panchkula. The brothers, 21 and 23 years of age respectively, committed the crime when their cousin sister was 19-years-old. Panchkula additional district and sessions judge Narender Sura read out the quantum of punishment, reported the Hindustan Times. The victims turned hostile during the hearing of the case. The crime had taken place in the year 2017 and the boys allegedly also raped the younger sister of the victim, who was 14 years of age when the crime was committed. However, the court had termed the brothers guilty on April 1, and read out the punishment to the brothers for raping the 19-year-old cousin on Friday. The punishment for raping the 14-year-old victim will be read on Monday.
The two brothers, who are the sons of the maternal uncle of the victims, allegedly took turns to rape the sisters by taking them in their shanties in Panchkula in 2017. The accused also threatened the girls that they would kill their families if they opened their mouth and told anything to anyone.
In fact, during the hearing, both the sisters and their mother turned hostile saying that while they were raped, they were not sure who among the two was responsible for the crime. But till then it was established beyond doubt that the brothers had raped the victims, following which they were sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment.
