Mumbai, November 8: In an unfortunate incident in Palghar, a 25-year-old man from Bhiwandi died after drowning in a swimming pool at a resort in Virar. The alleged incident occurred on Wednesday evening, November 6, when the deceased, identified as Satyendra Kumar, died allegedly after sustaining head injuries while diving in a resort's swimming pool. Police officials said that the incident took place when Kumar had come with a group to Visava Resort for a day picnic.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the deceased allegedly hit his head on the floor of the pool when diving into it, thereby sustaining severe head injuries. During the preliminary investigation, the deceased's friend, Amit Pal, told cops that they got worried and even called for help when Kumar did not come up to the surface of the water. He also told cops that the resort's staff brought Kumar out of the water. Kumar, who was in an unconscious state, was immediately rushed to the Arnala Mahalaxmi Hospital, from where he was referred to the Sanjeevani Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. It is also learned that the incident took place at around 3:30 PM on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in connection with the incident. Cops also found that Kumar, who stayed with his parents in Bhiwandi, worked at a factory in the same area. Speaking about the incident, a police officer said that Kumar dived into the swimming pool despite signs prohibiting the same. "We are investigating whether the resort staff or lifeguards attempted to stop him or not," he added.
