Pakistani Migrants Get Chance to Vote in Lok Sabha Elections 2019 for First Time

A new update is coming from the Election Commission that around 1,000 Pakistani migrants would be exercising their democratic rights for the first time in Jodhpur during the fourth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

New Delhi, April 29: The Lok Sabha Elections 2019's fourth phase is currently underway with 961 candidates in fray for 72 seats, a new update is coming from the Election Commission that around 1,000 Pakistani migrants would be exercising their democratic rights for the first time in Jodhpur.

According to the report, published in the Hindustan Times, all these people would vote in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 for the first after being granted the Indian citizenship on January 1. Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Phase 4 Live News Updates.

Expressing his happiness on being granted the right to vote in the general elections of India, Govardhan Bheel said, "We came to India on May 18, 2001. Since then, we were waiting for citizenship. On January 1 this year, my parents and wife along with me got citizenship. We are among the lucky ones who have got Indian citizenship. There are hundreds of others waiting to become Indian citizens."

It is to be known that the Union Home Ministry gave powers to district magistrates and state home secretaries to grant citizenship to Hindus in 2016. The rights were granted for only those people who have migrated to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Among the 3,090 applications Jodhpur district administration received, over 1,000 Pakistani migrants were given Indian citizenship in January.
