Meerut, December 28: A shocking video has gone viral on social media, where a senior police officer from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut is seen making communal statements in a Muslim locality. The video was taken on December 20 when the police were dealing with violent anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests across the city. Yogi Adityanath Justifies Police Crackdown on Anti-CAA Protesters, Says ‘Every Rioter Is Shocked, They Will Cry Now’.
The video shows Meerut Superintendent of Police (SP), Akhilesh Narayan Singh walking in a narrow lane. The senior cop stops on noticing a few Muslim men standing. "Kahan jaoge? Is gali ko main theek karoonga (Where will you go? I will look over this lane)," Singh tells two men wearing skull caps. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit Makes Controversial Statement, Says 'Most of The Police Force Is Corrupt'.
One of them replies, "We were just offering our Namaz." To which SP says, "Nahin woh to theek hai jo kaali patti aur neeli patti baandh rahe ho unko keh do Pakistan chale jaayein (That's fine. But these black and blue badges you people are wearing, tell them to go to Pakistan)."
Watch Video:
"Desh main agar nahin rehne ka man hai to chale jao bhaiya. Aaoge yahan aur gaoge kahin aur ka. (If you do not want to live here then go away. You come here but you sing praises about somewhere else?)," the officer can be heard saying.
Reacting to the development, ADG Meerut Prashant Kumar said, "Stones were being pelted, anti-India and pro-neighbouring country slogans were being raised there. The situation was very very tense. PFI pamphlets were being distributed. This was despite all appeals, including by religious leaders. Yes if situation was normal then the choice of words could have been better, but that day the situation was extremely volatile, our officers showed a lot of restraint, there was no firing by Police."
ANI tweet:
In protests against the new Citizenship Act at least six deaths have been reported from Meerut. While most of the bodies have gunshot injuries, police have denied any open firing.
This is not the only incident of communal abuse allegedly by Uttar Pradesh Police. A report in The Telegraph said that 30 police personnel broke into a house of Muslim family in Muzaffarnagar and vandalised it. The family claimed that cops told them "Muslims have only two places, Pakistan or Kabristan." The family was also looted at gunpoint, the report said.
