New Delhi, October 25: A painting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mahatma Gandhi fetched the highest bid of Rs 25 lakh on the last day of e-auction organised by the Ministry of Culture. The auction was organised to sell as many as 2,772 items gifted to PM Narendra Modi as mementoes which include paintings, sculptures, shawls, jackets and traditional musical instruments. Toshkhana Full of High-Valued Foreign Gifts Deposited by PM Narendra Modi And Sushma Swaraj.

While the painting of PM Modi and Mahatma Gandhi was sold for Rs 25 lakh, a framed photograph of the Prime Minister receiving blessings from his mother received a bid of Rs 20 lakh. The framed photograph had a base price of Rs 1,000. An exhibit of Manipuri Folk Arts, with a base price of Rs 50,000, was auctioned for Rs 10 lakh, among other items.

The auction began from September 14 and was to conclude on October 3. However, the government extended the deadline to October 24 following an overwhelming response from bidders. The items were kept in the National Gallery of Modern Art Museum in New Delhi before they were put up for auction.
