Overcrowded local train claimed another life in Mumbai. On Monday, a woman from Dombivali fell off a CSMT-bound local train and later succumbed to her injuries.

Mumbai, July 23: Overcrowded local train claimed another life in Mumbai. On Monday, a woman from Dombivali fell off a CSMT-bound local train and later succumbed to her injuries. The incident took place between Kopar and Diva railway stations. The victim was identified as Savita Naik who used to work at a chartered accountancy firm near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Savita would daily catch a local train from Dobivali at 9:13 am. On Monday, she boarded the train which was extremely crowded. She fell off the train between Kopar and Diva railway stations. "After getting information, our team rushed at the spot and sent the victim to Shastri Nagar hospital, where doctor declared her brought dead," GRP senior inspector Satish Pawar told TOITravelling on Footboards of Local Trains May Attract 3-Month Jail Term.

Savita's father Fakira urged the railways to take measures to decrease crowd in local trains. "The railways should take steps to end overcrowding in local trains to avoid a repeat of such incidents," he was quoted as saying.
