Greater Noida, March 9: More than 200 cows have died over the past two months at a gaushala in Ecotech 3 of Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida. This comes months after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government directed officials to send stray bovines to shelter across the state. According to the Hindustan Times report, staffers at Gau Lok said the cows, bulls, buffaloes and calves died due to various reasons between January 1, 2019, and March 7, 2019. The cattle shelter run by 'Goras Foundation' said that the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) had started sending stray cattle in large number to their shelter from January 1. It is reported that the shelter currently houses 1,200 bovines, out of which 800 sent by GNIDA between January 1 and March 7. Speaking to Hindustan Times, a caretaker of Gau Lok said, "We are witnessing at least four bovine deaths every day and, over 200 have died so far." He further added that several of these animals are undernourished and only one veterinary doctor is present in the shelter. Some of the stray bulls have also turned violent and fatally injured other bovines.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in last week of December 2018, passed a directive asking officials to send all strays bovines to cow shelters. He also gave permission to build new shelters wherever necessary.
