Operation Jalaraksha-2: Kerala Policemen to Adopt One Flood-Hit Family Each to Help Them Rehabilitate

The Kerala Police have taken it upon themselves to help the people of the state get back to life after being hit by devastating floods over the past one week.

Thiruvananthapuram, August 22: The Kerala Police have taken it upon themselves to help the people of the state get back to life after being hit by devastating floods over the past one week. In the second phase of Operation Jalaraksha, each police official in Kerala will adopt one family and help them rebuild their home as well as neighbourhood.

According to a Mirror Now report, Kerala Police chief Loknath Behera came up with the idea for the second phase of the operation with an aim to help with rehabilitation of affected families. The report says that Behera himself has adopted three families under the operation.

According to reports, about 30,000 personnel including local law enforcement agents and members of AP Battalion, Women's Battalion and Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) will take part in the operation. The Kerala police have also stated that they will raise Rs 10 crore and donate it to the CM's disaster relief fund to help rehabilitate the people of the state. Kerala faced the worst floods in a century over the past one week, leaving more than 370 people dead and lakhs displaced. Centre had on Tuesday declared the floods in Kerala as a 'calamity of severe nature'. The southern state has suffered a loss of Rs 19,512 crore. The Central government, various states, individuals and communities have come forward with financial aids to help in the relief and rehabilitation process.
