ONGC PSU Recruitment Racket: Delhi Police Busts Multi-Crore Job Scam, Seven Including Two Government Officials Arrested
Reports inform that the scam took place within Krishi Bhawan area in the national capital where scamsters cheated youths on the pretext of providing them government jobs in the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
New Delhi, Sep 19: The Delhi Police on Wednesday busted a multi-crore PSU Recruitment Scam and arrested seven people including two government employees. Reports inform that the scam took place within Krishi Bhawan area in the national capital where scamsters cheated youths on the pretext of providing them government jobs in the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Police informed that seven men including the Class IV employees at the ministry have been arrested so far.
The accused were identified as Jagdish Raj (58), Sandeep Kumar (31), Wasim (28), Ankit Gupta (32), Vishal Goel (27), Suman Saurabh (32) and Kishore Kunal (32), police said. According to reports, the scamsters assured people of ‘sarkari naukri’ and gave fake appointment letters for the PSU major – ONGC to dozens of youth. A total of 27 mobile phones, two laptops, 10 chequebooks, fake ID cards and 45 SIM cards from the accused. Police informed that further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact number of victims. The victims were introduced to a man named Randhir Singh who took Rs 22 lakhs from them for providing jobs in ONGC, Police said. According to a TOI report, the mastermind of the racket is a techie who is also the director of an online software firm. The team also comprises of a graphic & web designer, event manager and the government employees who work at Krishi Bhawan. The report informs that the racket was run by a few tech graduates and an event manager, who used an empty room of a government employee on leave to conduct fake interviews with candidates.
The group lured candidates through elaborate websites and then conducted the interview by calling them PSU Board Members. The candidates who were later selected were given out an appointment letter and asked to deposit the fees. After an investigation was launched into the matter, the Police said that the incident came to light after ONGC filed a complaint that the gang had duped a student of Rs. 22 lakhs. The case was registered and probe handed over to the crime branch.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the victims received emails from official email account of ONGC. Rajiv Ranjan, additional commissioner (crime) said that the Police has recovered 27 mobile phones, two laptops, 10 chequebooks, fake ID cards and 45 SIM cards from the accused. Ranjan revealed that during the investigation, it was revealed that one person named Ravi Chandar, who ran a consultancy firm in Hyderabad used to zero down on youths and introduce them to Kunal.
