Ola, Uber Drivers on Strike Again in Mumbai From Today
Union leader and MLA Sachin Ahir, who is leading the second round of the protests, said none of the demands raised by the drivers ahead of Diwali have been accepted by Ola and Uber.
Mumbai, November 18: City residents using Ola and Uber for commutation are set to face inconvenience again as the employees of the cab aggregators have went on strike. The agitation, which resumes today, was temporarily halted during the festive season of Diwali -- on the request of Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote.
Senior union leader and MLA Sachin Ahir, who is leading the second round of the protests, said none of the demands raised by the drivers ahead of Diwali have been accepted by Ola and Uber. The "apathy" shown by the two multinational companies has forced them to relaunch the stir. Diwakar Raote's Intervention Had Ended Strike Last Month.
The Ola, Uber car owners, drivers and their families are scheduled to stage a march today from Bharat Mata to Vidhan Bhavan. The Marathi Kamgar Sena would also be participating in the protest march.
Among the charter of demands raised by Ola and Uber employees include increased minimum pay, along with regulated working hours.
The Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS), which negotiated with the top executives of Ola and Uber in India last month, had claimed that the former has agreed to raise the incentives for drivers without causing additional burden on the passengers, but the talks with Uber remained "inconclusive".
According to Ahir, both the aggregators have not reached out to the protesters over the last fortnight, despite being intimated of their strike scheduled to begin from Sunday, November 18. "They have turned a blind eye towards our demands. Hence, we are forced to agitate," he said.
