New Delhi, September 29: In a big relief for commuters in Delhi, the city government is about to bring in a regulatory that imposes a fine of Rs 25,000 fine for cancelling cabs by drivers at the last moment. According to a report published in Indiatimes, the policy will also put a check on increasing prices and ensure several safety measures.
As per the newly drafted rules, the app base aggregators, Ola and Uber have to file a police complaint if a passenger reports a case of molestation or misconduct and Rs 1 lakh fine will be charged if the aggregator fails to do so. According to the report, a panel headed by Public Welfare Department Minister Satyendar Jain is evaluating the draft “Licencing and Regulation of App-based Aggregators Rules, 2017” and the City Taxi Scheme, 2017. After the implementation of the new rules, the app-based aggregators have to get a licence from the department to operate in Delhi. In addition to this these operators also have to operate a 24X7 call centre. Live GPS data of all cabs including the ones running in NCR should be shared with the transport department’s control centre.
