Bhubaneshwar, April 4: Alleging sexual harassment by a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Srinath Soren, a woman tried to immolate herself outside Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's residence. The incident took place on Wednesday. The woman was rescued and sent to the hospital, where her health is stated to be normal. According to reports, the security personnel outside CM's house rescued the woman. Anup Sahoo, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar said, "Though she poured kerosene on her body, security people did not allow her to set herself on fire." The woman had alleged that she had faced sexual harassment by Srinath Soren, BJD candidate of Udala assembly constituency. She also added that her grievance was not addressed even after she filed a police complaint. However, Soren rejected all the claims. "This could be a conspiracy against me by my political rivals," Soren said.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha in Odisha will take place in four phases. The voting will be held in the east Indian state on April 11, 18, 23 and 29. The national will go into polls in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
