Bhubaneswar, October 12: In a shocking incident in Odisha, a murder accused out on bail allegedly raped and killed a woman in Odisha recently. The incident came to light on Thursday, October 10, after the police arrested the murder accused Ramesh Naik (32) in Sundargarh district. Naik is accused of allegedly raping and killing a 39-year-old widow. Cops said that Naik also tried to kill a man before and left him grievously injured.

According to a report in The Times of India, Naik was granted bail after he spent six years in jail as an undertrial prisoner for murdering a woman. The alleged rape and murder came to light on October 8, when the widow woman's family members found her body near an under-construction house. After the incident, the victim's brother-in-law lodged a complaint, leading the police to probe the matter. While investigating the incident, cops learned about Naik's alleged involvement in the murder. They discovered that Naik was upset with a man who had promised to bail him out but failed to do so. Naik, who was seeking revenge, learned about the man being friendly with the widowed woman and decided to attack her.

Police officials said that Naik called the duo to a restaurant where the three had a meal. Later, the trio went to the man's house, where Naik attacked both of them. Assuming that the man was dead, Naik took the injured woman with him near an under-construction house where he allegedly raped her. After learning about Naik's involvement in the rape and murder, cops launched a manhunt and arrested him. P Behera, sub-inspector, Lahunipada police station, said that Naik was arrested for raping and killing the woman and for attempting to kill the man, too.
