Bhubaneswar, October 14: In an unfortunate incident in Odisha, a 26-year-old Kabaddi player from Chhattisgarh allegedly died after collapsing during a match in the state. The incident took place recently during a Kabaddi match organised at Tarabod village under Komna Police limits in Nuapada district. It is reported that the deceased Kabaddi player from Chhattisgarh allegedly died minutes after he fell ill and collapsed.
According to reports, the incident occurred during the inter-state Kabaddi tournament organized at Tarabod village on the occasion of Durga Puja. The deceased has been identified as Khageswar Rathia. It is reported that the incident happened when the final match between a team from the Hatisara area in Nuapada district and a team from Dudumachua village in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district was underway. A report in Odisha TV said that Khageswar Rathia allegedly fell ill and collapsed on the ground while there were hardly a few minutes left for the game to end. The team from Dudumachua team was on the verge of winning the game when the alleged tragedy struck the match. Soon after Rathia collapsed, he was rushed to Tarabod government hospital. From the government hospital, Rathia was shifted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, doctors declared him brought dead. It is suspected that Rathia died after he suffered a heart attack; however, the reason for his sudden demise is yet to be confirmed. The tragic incident has left villagers and kabaddi players in sorrow.
