Madiguda, August 5: Another case of farmer’s suicide due to crop loss has surfaced from Kalahandi district of Odisha. According to a report by Orissa Post, a cotton farmer in Madiguda village consumed pesticides on Saturday night over crop loss and loan burden. Reports inform that the farmer breathed his last on Sunday while undergoing treatment in the hospital. A case of unnatural death was registered and the body was handed over to family members after an autopsy.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Bahadur Rana (42), a resident of Madiguda village. The family members spotted him in pain with froth coming out of his mouth and rushed him to Titilagarh government hospital with the help of neighbours. According to the report, Rana died on Sunday while being under intense care at a Titilagarh government hospital.

As per details by his family members, the 42-year old farmer had taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh for cotton farming on his four acres of land and after suffering a crop loss, he took the extreme step.

The deceased is now survived with his wife Sabya Rana and two kids. According to the report, Rana had expected a bumper harvest and profit this year from the cotton farming, but his crops were washed away in the flash floods due to heavy rainfall in Odisha.
