The exact timing of the accident is said to be around 2 am. The pilgrims were reportedly returning to their homes in the village called Bolero. The pilgrims were returning after offering prayers and respects at the Vaishno Devi temple in Komna district. Local reports said that all the 10 pilgrims died on the spot.
As soon as the information reached Nuapada police, the fire services and rescue operations were pressed into service. A case has been registered by the police in the incident.
On September 25, five people of a family were killed while two others had sustained critical injuries after their van fell into a canal in Odisha's Puri district, police said. The incident reportedly occurred between Rua and Bhailapur on the Nirakarpur-Puri road. The injured were admitted to Chandanpur hospital and the accident had taken place as the driver had lost control of the vehicle, said media reports.
