Bhubaneswar, February 13: In a shocking incident, a minor girl in Odisha was raped inside a school toilet by a boy belonging to another school during Saraswati Puja celebrations in the school last week. According to reports, the Class 8 girl was raped in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The crime came to light after the girl narrated her ordeal to her family members. Reports inform that a case has been registered under Sections 341, 376 (3), 506 IPC and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act. Police said that the accused is yet to be arrested. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the brutal incident took place when the girl was inside the school bathroom when the boy, a Class 10 student, allegedly jumped the fence and raped her. The girl was taken for a medical examination soon after. Mayurbhanj Police informed that the incident took place on February 10 during the Saraswati Puja celebrations but it was reported on Tuesday.

In the wake of the rising rape cases in the state, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCPR) on January 30 had written to Odisha chief secretary asking the government to take steps to spread awareness on POCSO Act.
