Ranchi, January 7: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old engineering student from Rourkela district in Odisha was allegedly gang-raped for two days in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur, before being dumped in a forest, said police on Monday. The police added that among the accused include her brother’s friend.

According to police, the woman was abducted December 30, 2018, by her brother’s friend and then was gang-raped in a house in Lotapahar area of Chakradharpur. Later she was dumped in a nearby forest on January 1. Though the complaint has been lodged with Government Railway Police station in Rourkela, no one has been arrested as of yet. The superintendent of police Ajay Pratap Swain said that the woman was waiting for a train at the Rourkela railway station on December 30 on her way to her home in Jharsuguda district. She met her brother’s friend who advised her to travel with her on a separate train for Jharsuguda, along with him.

Briefing the details, Swain said, as reported by The Hindustan Times, “When the girl boarded the train along with the youth, she soon realised the train was not heading towards Jharsuguda but towards Chakradharpur. The youth then advised her to get down at Lotapahar railway station in Jharkhand and take a bus to reach Jharsuguda.”

Adding more, he said, “However, the youth took her to a house after both reached the station. Five other friends of the youth arrived at the house and allegedly gang-raped the girl for two days.”

After being released by the accused, the woman lodged a complaint with the police. Later she was sent for treatment in a government hospital in Rourkela, and her brother stated that she is in a critical condition now. Police have formed two teams to nab the accused, out of which one has gone to Chakradharpur to probe the incident.
