Odd-Even Rule, Day 2 Today: Delhi Air Quality Improves Slightly As Pollution Dips But Remains in 'Severe' Category, Increase in Wind Speed Helps Reduce Deadly Haze
There was a slight improvement in the air quality seen in Delhi on Monday, with the air quality index moving from "severe" to "very poor" category. An increase in wind speed helped reduce the deadly haze that has choked Delhi residents for about a week.
Delhi, November 5: There has been no respite from the rising pollution for people in Delhi till now. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, major pollutants PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 413, are both in the 'severe' category in Lodhi Road area on Day 2 of the odd-even rule. In Noida, the AQI was at 394 (very poor) in Sector-62 area. The AQI was at 396 (very poor) at NISE Gwal Pahari area in Gurugram, as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.
There was, however, a slight improvement in the air quality seen in Delhi on Monday, with the air quality index moving from "severe" to "very poor" category. An increase in wind speed helped reduce the deadly haze that has choked Delhi residents for about a week, according to a PTI report. From Monday, the Kejriwal government started the odd-even rationing scheme in order to curb the increase in pollution in the national capital. On the first day of the odd-even scheme, a face-off was witnessed between BJP MP Vijay Goel and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot. Goel violated the odd-even policy as a "symbolic protest", accusing the AAP government of taking no measures to control pollution in the last five years and coming up with "gimmicks" ahead of the upcoming election.
The odd-even scheme bars the plying of cars with number plates ending with even numbers on odd-numbered dates and vice versa began in Delhi from today. The policy has nearly halved the volume of vehicles on the road.
