Odd-Even in Delhi: Differently Abled Persons Exempted From Scheme, Announces Arvind Kejriwal
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that cars driven by differently-abled persons will be exempted from the Odd-Even scheme, starting November 4.
New Delhi, October 16: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that cars driven by differently-abled persons will be exempted from the Odd-Even scheme, starting November 4. Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement on Twitter while responding to a person who said that he is an amputee and can't use public transport due to the disabilities. "How about persons with disabilities @ArvindKejriwal sir? I am an amputee & cant sit in metro with artificial leg due to ill designed seats. So would be bus ride for me due to pushes and pulls. Only option is my own car. What do I and many like me do? (sic)," Major DP Singh wrote on Twitter, sharing a news clip about women being exempted from the Odd-Even scheme. Responding to the Tweet, Kejriwal posted: "Yes @MajDPSingh, persons with disabilities will definitely be exempt during Odd Even (sic)." The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader on October 12 announced that cars driven by women will be exempted from the Odd-Even scheme, while private CNG vehicles will need to follow the road rationing scheme.
"Women drivers will continue to be exempted from the provisions of the odd-even road rationing scheme keeping their security in mind," Kejriwal said. This means, any vehicle being driven by a single woman driver, or a single woman driver being accompanied by other female passengers as well as women driving with children below the age of 12, will be exempted.
Kejriwal further announced that unlike the previous edition of Odd-Even, private CNG vehicles will not be exempted this year. "In previous editions of Odd-Even, CNG vehicles were exempt. But we observed that the CNG stickers to denote vehicles were sold in the black market and misused by some people to bypass the Odd-Even scheme. This defeats the purpose of Odd-Even," he said.
