New Delhi, March 2: In a shocking incident, a non-resident Indian (NRI) on Saturday was arrested in the national capital for allegedly raping a woman he had met on a matrimonial site two years back. According to reports, the man, identified as Ravinder Singh was arrested from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport for raping the woman who he met in 2017.

According to a report by PTI, the accused is a native of Jalandhar district in Punjab. As per details by police, the woman filed a case on 27th March 2018 stating that she came in contact with Singh through the matrimonial website. The report further adds that on December 12, 2017, Singh reportedly intoxicated the victim and raped her. Amritsar: Retired Engineer Kills NRI Daughter, Hangs Self at His Residence. 

Police officer Vijayanta Arya informed that Singh had convinced the woman that he would marry her soon, but instead left Delhi. Months after Singh left the city, the victim came to know that he was already married and was living in the United Kingdom, where he used to work as a security guard there. Hyderabad: NRI Arrested For Allegedly Raping And Cheating 25-Year-Old Woman on Pretext of Marriage. 

As soon as the matter was reported, an investigation was initiated into the matter following which raids were conducted in the accused's village in Punjab. However, Singh did not join the probe, police said. On Thursday, Singh was apprehended from the IGI Airport, while he was returning from UK to visit his family in Jalandhar.
