Guwahati, July 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramakant Deori is among the 40 lakh people whose names do not figure in the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam. AIUDF MLA Ananta Kumar Malo is also not listed in the final draft. The Assam government released the second and final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state on Tuesday.

The final draft of NRC of Assam was available online at nrcassam.nic.in. Out of 3.29 crore people, 2.89 crore have been found eligible to be included. Names of 40,05,007 people haven't been mentioned in the list.

The name of the nephew of former president Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was also missing. So was the name of Retired Army man Mohd Azmal Hoque, who has served the country for 30 years.

Meanwhile, separatist ULFA (Independent) 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Baruah's name was included in the final draft. Paresh Baruah, who launched his revolution for 'sovereignty' of Assam nearly 40 years ago and leading it reportedly now from somewhere along the China-Myanmar border, has his name in the complete draft also, along with the names of five of his family members, according to his brother Bikul Baruah.

Are you satisfied with the way NRC Assam draft has been prepared?

The NRC of Assam has led to a huge political row with the Opposition and the BJP government at loggerheads. While the Opposition has accused the government of "politicising" the NRC, BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said, "Rajiv Gandhi signed Assam Accord in 1985, which was similar to NRC. They did not have the courage to implement it, we did."

The government has, meanwhile, said that while this is the final draft, it's not the "final list". The government has stated that those who have not been mentioned in the draft can raise objections starting August 30.
