NPR, Atal Bhujal Yojana Get Cabinet's Nod; No Biometric or Documents Needed For National Population Register, Says Prakash Javadekar
The Narendra Modi government on Tuesday approved Atal Bhujal Yojana (ATAL JAL) with a total outlay of Rs 6000 crore. The government scheme will be implemented over a period of five years in identified areas in Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh across 78 districts.
New Delhi, December 24: The Narendra Modi government on Tuesday approved two schemes - Atal Bhujal Yojana (ATAL JAL) and National Population Register (NPR). A total outlay of Rs 6000 crore is set aside for the Atal Bhujal Yogna which will be implemented over a period of five years in identified areas in Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh across 78 districts, 193 blocks and about 8,300-gram panchayats. Atal Bhujal Yojana will be implemented and looked over by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. According to reports, half of the cost of the scheme will be borne by the Government and remaining money will be funded by the World Bank in the form of a loan. The Union Cabinet on Tuesday also approved funds to the tune of over Rs 8,500 crore for updating the NPR. The NPR exercise is to commence from April next year. The NPR is a list of "usual residents" of the country. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar No biometric or documents are needed for the NPR. Both ATAL JAl and NPR will be launched on Wednesday, on the 95th birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On the birth anniversary of Vajpayee, PM Narendra Modi will unveil a statue of the former Prime Minister at Lok Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday. Preparations for the event are in the final stage, with senior UP government officials inspecting the venue on Tuesday. The venue has been sanitised with the help of a sniffer dog and bomb detectors. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandi Bien Patel will be attending the event along with other state ministers and leaders.
