New Delhi, December 21: Cold wave conditions gripped parts of North India after fresh snowfalls in hilly areas. Residents of Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh braved the bone-chilling cold conditions since the last week. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chilly weather is likely to intensify in the coming days. " Due to favourable meteorological conditions, dense fog very likely during morning hours in parts of central, east & northeast India during next 2-3 days and likely increase in intensity and spatial distribution thereafter over these regions", the IMD said.
In its daily weather bulletin on Saturday, the weather agency stated that cold wave conditions are likely to prevail at over Delhi, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal during next 24 hours. For December 22, the IMD predicted cold days and foggy conditions over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
According to details by Skymet Weather, the minimum temperatures across Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam and few other northern states has fallen by 4 to 6 degrees. The private weather agency has predicted a further drop in temperature by another two to three degrees is possible over the region in the coming days.
