Noida, November 12: A 19-year-old domestic worker was found dead after allegedly hanging herself from an iron staircase on the terrace of a high-rise in Uttar Pradesh's Noida. The incident occurred at the Golden Palm Society in Noida’s Sector 168 early Monday, November 11. A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and a probe has been launched.
According to a report published by The Indian Express, the deceased had been working as a house helper in a flat within the complex. Investigations revealed that she was distressed after her parents confiscated her mobile phone, upset over her conversations with a male neighbour. Sunil Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Expressway, said, “They also scolded her for talking to the neighbour. She was upset and angry over this. On Monday, instead of going to work, she took the lift to the terrace of the 23-storey building and hanged herself.” Police were alerted about the incident around 7 am.
The victim's father, originally from Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh, has been residing with the family in Noida. The police are undertaking the necessary legal action, though no FIR has been registered by the family as of now. In another incident, a woman died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of the GIP mall in Noida's Sector 18 on October 7. The victim, identified as Akanksha Sood, reportedly struggled with depression related to her divorce proceedings, police said. She had left her mobile phone at home before going to the mall.
Akanksha Sood was critically injured in the fall and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, where she died from her injuries, according to the police. Akanksha had reportedly been in a prolonged dispute with her husband since their marriage in 2017.
