New Delhi, September 21: In the latest development, no meeting between India and Pakistan to be conducted next week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) reported News 18. According to the report, India has decided not to hold the meetings due to the ongoing killings and abductions of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and their families. Meanwhile, some reports also say that India has not still decided to withdraw from the meeting and will review its decision.
Yesterday, reports surfaced in the media that India had agreed to hold a meeting with Pakistan on the sidelines of UNGA. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar during a press conference on Thursday confirmed that on the request of the Pakistani side, a meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would take place.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote a letter to his Indian counterpart on Thursday, Narendra Modi, expressing the desire to resume dialogue between the two countries. In his letter, Khan stressed on the resolution of all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully. He also said Pakistan remains ready to discuss terrorism.
The Pakistan Prime Minister said that ‘constructive engagement’ needed to move forward. Khan also proposed a meeting between India's Swaraj and Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. India had boycotted the SAARC summit which was held in Pakistan in 2016, after the terror attack at an Indian Army base in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri in September 2016
