New Delhi, January 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Selection Panel on Thursday remained inconclusive on the decision of finalising the name of next Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director. The meeting was attended by Chief Justice of India(CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and the Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge for selecting the new CBI Cheif. It is reported that the committee is likely to meet again on Friday. The meeting had taken place at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. According to reports, the government has shortlisted 12 candidates for the central agency's top position. The list includes Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Shivanand Jha and NIA (National Investigation Agency) DG Y.C. Modi, who are considered favourites of PM Modi. The list also included a female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rina Mitra. Mumbai commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Border Security Force (BSF) DGP Rajnikant Mishra, Uttar Pradesh DGP O.P. Singh, Haryana DG (state vigilance bureau) Parminder Rai, CISF DG Rajesh Ranjan and SSB DG S.S. Deswal are also said to be among those shortlisted.

The CBI has been working under interim director M Nageshwar Rao after former chief Alok Verma was sacked on charges of corruption by the high-powered committee headed by PM Modi. Nageshwar's appointment has also been challenged in the Supreme Court.
