Bangalore, September 23: Four days into the protests, the students of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore boycotted their semester-end exams on Monday, September 23. The protesters are demanding the immediate appointment of new Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy. The NLSIU campus has more than 500 students enrolled. Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy was shortlisted for V-C position by unanimous decision of committee formed by NLSIU Executive Council. With over 50 days of delay, the student body has been demanding university administration to complete the formalities in his appointment.

Protests at NLSIU:

In addition, the Registrar of the university, Prof Nandimath, who is the ex-officio Secretary to the NLSIU Executive Council, which is responsible for the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor, applied for the post, resulting in a conflict of interest. However, he lost the claim to Prof Krishnaswamy.

Reacting to the ongoing crisis in the university, former Karnataka Chief Minister tweeted, "NLSIU-Bengaluru is a prestigious institution which has excelled in the field of Public Policy & Law. The ongoing tussle between the @SBAnlsiu & the administration has to be resolved at the earliest, without violating the due process, in the interest of the institution."

On Saturday, the protestors took out a mid-night march against the crisis at university. The Vice-Chancellor's post fell vacant after previous VC R Venkata Rao completed his term of 10 years on July 31, 2019.
