NITI Ayog Releases Second Delta Ranking of Aspirational Districts; Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar Tops The List

New Delhi, December 27: Niti Ayog today released the Second Delta Ranking of the Aspirational Districts Programme. Niti Ayog CEO Amitabh Kant was also present at the event. The ranking released today give details about the incremental progress achieved by the districts during June to October this year across six key development sectors. The planning department through a tweet asserted that development of the backward districts was possible because of the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The department tweeted, Development of Aspirational Districts is rooted in PM Narendra Modi's belief of Sabka saath, Sabka vikas. These are the Most & Least improved Districts, in terms of providing qualitative citizen-centric administration for Financial Inclusion.”
Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu topped the list as it has shown the most improvement overall, followed by Nuapada district in Odisha. Meanwhile, Siddarthnagar in Uttar Pradesh ranked 3rd and Bihar's Aurangabad is at 4th spot. Odisha’s Koraput is placed at 5th spot by the planning department. However, Pakur in Jharkhand, at 111th position was one of the backward districts that have not done well as per expectations. Meanwhile, Nagaland's Kiphire district, Jharkhand's Giridih, Chatra in Jharkhand, Hailakandi in Assam are also among the least performing districts of the country. Among the 20 least developed districts, nine are from Bihar, five from Jharkhand and three from Odisha.
The rankings are based on the publicly available data that through the Champions of Change Dashboard, which includes data entered on a real-time basis at the district level. The Aspirational District Programme was launched by the Prime Minister in January this year. The main of this programme was to bring development in the most backward districts of the country.
