New Delhi, July 9: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on the petitions filed by three convicts in December 16, 2012 Delhi gangrape case on Monday . The bench comprising of Justice Dipak Misra and justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan is likely to deliver its ruling at 2 pm. Meanwhile, talking to ANI, the mother of the victim, Asha Devi showed the confidence of getting justice. She also expressed disappointment on the sexual assaults on the women. Devi said, “It has been six years since the incident. Similar incidents are still taking place every day, our system has failed us. We are confident that the judgment will be in our favour and we will get justice.”

Three convicts Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23) have filed petitions against their death sentence, whereas the 31-year-old fourth convict Akshay Kumar Singh has not filed any plea. The fifth accused Ram Singh committed suicide in the Tihar Jail, while a juvenile justice board convicted the juvenile accused. He was later released from a reformation centre after serving three-year-term.

On May 5, 2017, The apex court upheld Delhi High Court’s death sentence awarded to the convicts for raping and then murdering 23-year-old paramedical student. The victim was gang-raped on the night of December 16, 2012. She then brutally assaulted and was thrown on the road. The victim underwent treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. She was later airlifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore after her condition deteriorated, whe succumbed to her injuries.
